“What is this?” I knew I shouldn’t have fell asleep. It was bad enough I allowed him to lead me to the upstairs apartment. Even worse that I again let him have his way. It was the third time I’d visited but the first time I spent the night and I woke up staring at my wrist lying on the pillow with a handcuffs for a bracelet.
I gazed at the wrist. And then into eyes, creased with mischief. I moved my hand. I was handcuffed to him!
“Good morning.” He leaned and kissed my lips. Then let out a contented sigh. We laid like that for a while that morning. Talking like we would every day. Being face to face didn’t seem very different though it really was.
Finally, I had to sit up.
“My plane leaves in an hour” I stretched and pulled on my jeans. “You better unlock me.”
“No.”
I laughed. He jokingly grabbed my waist and pulled me to him and tickled my neck with his fuzz covered chin.
“Seriously, I have to get going.”
“No.” He insisted. “I’m kidnapping you.”
Thank goodness I had slept in my tee-shirt because I had no choice but to follow him downstairs where he went about his day like nothing was out of the ordinary.
His partner and staff was already there, but the doors were not open for business.
“Hey, I thought you were leaving today.” His partner greeted.
I held up my handcuffed hand in response. And he roared with laughter.
“It’s not funny.” I was so mad. “How long are you planning to keep me chained to you?”
“Until you agree to stay,” he said. “or miss your flight.”
I growled.
“You know she could just tell you she’s gonna stay and then make a run for it.”
“No.” he gazed at me with that damn smile. “She wouldn’t do that. She’ll never say anything she doesn’t mean even if she wants to.”
“Kidnappings illegal man. This week’s too busy for me to handle it by myself.”
“Stay.” He insisted.
“No.” I argued. “Take them off.”
“Nope.” And he moved on to his next task, dragging me with him. “Stay.”
“I can’t change my ticket.”’
“I’ll buy you another one.”
“No.” I had never allowed him to buy me anything.
“Thirty more minutes.” He laughed. Eyeing the clock. He was really going to make me miss my flight.
“Fine.” I relented. I had been traveling all over, not wanting to stay in one place, or ever let my heart be tied down. No matter how I felt about him, I never wanted to spend a lot of time with him. It had been a long time since I had been in my home town and that was where I was heading next. “On one condition.”
“Anything.”
“Next week you have to take a vacation and you are going with me.”
He spit out the sip of coffee he’s taken, nearly choking on it.
“It may be time you met … everyone.”
“Alright.” He agreed and took the key out of his pocket and unlocked the cuffs. “I have to meet your best friend don’t’ I?
“Yup.”
“she gonna kill me in my sleep.”
“Probably.” I spat turned on my heel and headed upstairs. I was beyond mad at him. “She doesn’t like you.”
“Do you still like me?” He called after me.
“Not right now!” I snapped. “You arrogant, self-centered … asshole!” I ranted as I left the room.
Why the hell was everyone laughing? It really wasn’t that funny.
